In Japan, a new manga series is taking the country by storm. The story follows a young man who has been given the chance to become a samurai in his next life. He must choose between three souls with varying degrees of power and experience.

The bright: samurai soul Netflix is a movie that was released on Netflix in 2017. It has received mixed reviews, but it is worth watching.

When Netflix first teased an anime version of Will Smith’s 2017 urban fantasy Bright, fans were both amused and cautiously optimistic. With the anime’s release on Netflix on October 12th, it’s only reasonable to ask whether Bright: Samurai Soul is related to the 2017 film Bright.

Bright: Samurai Soul is not related to the film Bright in any manner, at least not in terms of storyline. Director Ishiguro, on the other hand, acknowledges that certain elements of the film were modified for the anime.

The anime reincarnation provided a chance for those who preferred the world to the storyline to produce something more interesting with the program than writer Max Landis and director David Ayer did with Bright. Continue reading to learn more about how anime and live-action movies are linked.

Bright: Samurai Soul is a spin-off of the critically panned Bright, according to director Kyhei Ishiguro’s interview with Screen Rant.

To be clear, the difference between a sequel and a spin-off is that a sequel continues the original story in the same universe and with the same characters, whereas a spin-off can be a television or radio program or any other type of narrative that is inspired by and has a direct connection to an existing work of fiction.

Ishiguro explains. “There was just a skeleton of an idea: the picture would be based on the original film, set in Japan at the end of the Edo period and the start of the Meiji era, and Michiko Yokote would write the screenplay.” That was the end of it.”

In reality, Ishiguro had not yet watched Bright when he was approached with the concept, and he had to see it first. “I viewed the original version to determine whether to accept the offer,” he adds. “I enjoyed the plot as well as Will Smith’s performance. It was fantastic. As a result, I became a fan and accepted the offer right away.”

Ishiguro often highlighted the film’s uniqueness. Landis and Ayer, who directed and wrote Bright, aren’t acknowledged in the anime offshoot and don’t seem to have had any involvement with it.

“What I can tell you is that the crew of the original work granted us a lot of flexibility,” Ishiguro replies when asked whether he talked with them. They ensured that we were allowed to create our own narrative while staying true to the original’s purpose.”

What Is the Relationship Between Bright: Samurai Soul and Bright?

Bright: Samurai Soul is not related to the film Bright in any manner, at least not in terms of storyline. However, Ishiguro acknowledges that certain elements of the film were translated into the anime, such as the fact that the anime is set in the Bright world but takes place much earlier.

The original Bright’s idea of corruption and dominance, as well as the use of magic by society’s disadvantaged parts to regain some power, are all derived straight from it. Despite the similarities in topic and storyline, Ishiguro insists that the new film is not a remake and was not made in reaction to the original Bright’s teachings.

He claims that “there was never any attempt to compensate for or repair what didn’t work with the original.” “It’s up to the viewers to decide whether we’ve surpassed the original’s success or not.” I’m not in a position to make a decision, but I’m pleased with the outcome.”

Is Will Smith reprising his role as Samurai in Bright: Samurai Soul?

Bright: Samurai Soul has been dubbed the Bright anime spin-off that does not star Will Smith. Will Smith is not an actor and does not appear in the anime.

There were reports that there were issues with the product back in 2024, based on Will Smith’s schedule is too busy. It may be the reason he isn’t a character, or it could be the director’s intention to keep things fresh.

The bright: samurai soul cast is a movie that is about to be released. It is a sci-fi film with some action and drama.
